Guest Post: Keeping Your Kids Busy During the Summer

By

by Corrie Petersen

During the school year it’s pretty easy to keep the kids busy. They’re in school for a good chunk of the day, so there is nothing for you to do. The problem occurs when summer hits and they’re not in school.

Keeping your kids busy during the summer can be a challenge when they are under the age of 13. The reason for this is because they’re too young to do things on their own. They are too young to go to the movies, go to the mall with friends, or work a job.

When this happens, you need to find ways to keep them busy. Here are a few suggestions for you to consider.

1. If you have young children, you need to consider purchasing color books and a large box of color crayons. This will keep them busy for hours and you’ll have new art work for your walls and refrigerator.

2. The TV can be a great tool when you’re trying to keep the kids busy during the summer. Purchase or rent DVD’s that are educational and fun for them to watch. Not only will they be occupied for a few hours, but they’ll learn something while they’re at it.

3. Board games are another option for the summer months. Purchase board games that are age appropriate and fun at the same time. You might even be able to purchase games that are educational.

4. If you have younger children, you might consider hiring a teenager to come over and keep them busy while you work. The good thing about this option is the kids will be at your home, so it won’t be a daycare setting.

5. Another option is to find another work at home mom that’s in your area and trade days with her. You take her kids one day and she takes your kids on another day. It’ll be a win-win for both of you.

6. If your children are a little older, you could find things for them to do to help you with your business. Of course, this depends on your business and how old your children are, but it might work for you.

When you’re a work at home mom, the summer can be a challenge. Keeping the children busy will help you continue working your business. You should make time for them each day so they know your business doesn’t take priority over them.

These six suggestions will help you come up with the perfect techniques to keep your children busy while you work. Remember the reason for working a business at home and this will help you keep going while the children are at home during the summer months.
