Principles of Success: Live Righteously

Principle:  Live Righteously

Scripture(s): Proverbs 5:21-23 “For a man’s ways are in full view of the Lord, and he examines all his paths. The evil deeds of a wicked man ensnare him; the cords of his sin hold him fast. He will die for lack of discipline, led astray by his own great folly.”

You know, this post has been downright difficult to write. In fact, I put it off and put it off to the point that it came right down to the wire in getting it submitted in time for today’s posting. You see, you can’t talk about personal and business success without touching on living righteously.

So, why has it been so hard to write this post? Truthfully, God and I have been having it out about a specific sin in my life that I just did not want to give up. Upon deep introspection I agreed with God in that it was time to give it up, but I couldn’t write about righteous living when I myself was struggling with sin. Let’s just say that I see God’s point, have confessed my sin and look forward to today being a brand new day.

Too many times we get into the act of living life that we forget or simply ignore who’s watching. As Christian business owners and business men and women, it is important to live a life that is set apart from the world. The more righteously you live, the brighter your light shines before man and God.

Matthew 5:14-16, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

In living righteously, your life is a bright, shining light in a world darkened with the heaviness of sin. Sin flickers and, when we live a life more ladened with sin than righteousness, it greatly dims our light. You may be asking ‘what does success have to do with how we live our lives?’ EVERYTHING! Do you seriously believe you will truly succeed by cutting corners? Sin has a way of catching up with you, no matter who you are or how many corners you cut. After so many cut corners and underhanded deals things will catch up with you. Instead, be the business owner who people want to know why you are different. Live your life in such a way that brings God delight and points others towards God.

Challenge: Are you living righteously? What’s holding you back? Take a time out and spend it in serious prayer. Have it out with God, get right with Him and start living your life for the right reasons. If you are living for Jesus, then live for Jesus. Be intentional about it.
