Be a Website Winner! Get to Grips with LinkingBy
If you’re running a business from home, then the quality of your website is extremely important. Of course, this goes for pretty much most types of legitimate business in the world! But you’ve probably not got a lot of the resources that bigger companies have. You have to rely on the success of your website a little more than other companies do.
A lot of people in this situation know that SEO, or search engine optimization, is the way forward for them. It’s hard to overstate how important it is to the success of your website. People often enlist the help of an SEO agency in this situation. But whether you do that or not, you’re going to have to understand a lot of the elements yourself. After all, you’re usually still going to be the one building the website and creating its content!
There’s one thing that is so important to the success of SEO but is very often done incorrectly by business owners. And that’s the art of linking. When you’re creating text content, the links that you put into the text is of the utmost importance. Without great linking practices, your SEO campaign is probably not going to go very far.
So here are a few pieces of essential advice that will help you improve your linking. Keep these in mind as you create blog posts or any other sort of article.
External links > internal links
This is something that may seem obvious to some. But a lot of people seem to get it confused. The way to successfully “link build” for effective SEO is to link to pages outside of your website. The content of your own website may be great by Google’s standards. But that doesn’t mean you can just link to your own content all the time. You need to link to other websites. Over time, this will hopefully lead other websites to link to you.
Google likes to change how it all works
Yeah, I know there are loads of different search engines out there. But let’s face it: Google is the top dog. That’s not to say you should ignore the workings of other search engines. But you really need to keep an eye on what Google are up to. The way they change their algorithms can affect your SEO campaign, especially when it come to linking. You should start by getting familiar with the recent Penguin 4 update. If you don’t keep on your toes here, you may find yourself dropping in the rankings with no idea why!
Formatting is important
Links, of course, are created using HTML. But people often underestimate just how much you should be doing with HTML when you’re creating external links. You need to use good descriptive keywords in your title and anchor text. If you’re not sure what that means, here’s an HTML sample. What I’m referring to is highlighted in bold:
<a href=”http://www.external-link-example.com” title=”this text here!“>this text here!</a>
If it’s too vague and doesn’t use keywords, the link quality will be affected!
