40 Days to a Better Business: Day 28 – Goal Setting

40 Days to a Better Business

The next step in our 40 day journey to a better business it to set some attainable goals. Let’s start out by thinking through where we want to see our businesses in the future.

Grab a piece of paper and jot down a few things that you’d like to see happen in these time periods:

* 1 month

* 6 months

* 1 year

* 5 years

Exciting to think about the possibilities, isn’t it?

The trouble is, we often allow ourselves to become overwhelmed by the big picture. Let’s take today’s exercise one step further and break each of our goals down into bite-sized chunks.  We’ll set individual goals within each item on your list above and then give ourselves a due date for each one.

So, let’s say you have “Begin sending out a newsletter” listed under your one month goals. Breaking that down would look something like this:

Begin Sending Newsletter

1. Set budget for mailing list program

2. Research affordable mailing list options

3. Choose mailing list program

4. Set up mailing list account

5. Create and install sign up box for website

6. Brainstorm ideas for newsletter topics and articles.

7.  Etc.

Then we give each action step an individual due date based on the time needed to complete the task and add those to our planner/calendar.

This is a great way to see progress in your business. By breaking things down into measurable, achievable goals, you will be much more likely to complete the necessary steps to accomplish your goals.
