Being Open to Change

Being Open to Change by Rachel WilliamsonBalancing the need to persevere and stick to it vs. being open to change.

How do you judge when to make a change? Is there a correct time to abandon a project?

Let’s look at the motivation behind the decision. Are you sticking because of stubbornness; someone told you that you had to do it; perhaps someone told you that you couldn’t do it. Or maybe doing what you are doing has become so comfortable that changing now would be painful.

Working From Home: Is It Important to Be Liked?

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on Working From Home: Is It Important to Be Liked?

Rachel Williamson, Business as a Calling bloggerIs It Important to Be LikedDo you like me?

Remember fifth grade when finding out who liked you was s-o-o-oooo important?

Do you remember early school days….when someone ‘liking’ you was a symbol of success?

You were right you know….a great part of being successful is being liked!

Many of us believe that our business should first be about helping people, that how many people ‘like’ you is just being social or shallow or vain somehow.

Not so….

Like is not a popularity contest….like can be as simple as

  • You make me smile
  • You make me feel good
  • You share good things with me
  • You are upbeat
  • You remind me of someone else I like
  • I enjoy hearing from you
  • You appreciate me
  • You share my values

And guess what? People like people who do those things!

So how does that translate to your business? It’s simple really… Read More→

GIGO and Network Marketing

Rachel Williamson, Business as a Calling blogger

Garbage in, garbage out….you may have heard the term. GIGO comes from the computer industry and means that contrary to popular opinion, your computer can only produce what you put into it.

If you enter nonsense random characters, you are not likely to get any meaningful data out.

Did you know that our brains work the same way?

If you put nonsense, random characters, or garbage into your head….guess what comes out? Mostly out of your mouth, I might add!  Yep, you got it….garbage. Read More→

Who Are Your Heart Sisters?

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on Who Are Your Heart Sisters?

Rachel Williamson, Business as a Calling bloggerCould you be my next heart sister? How would we recognize one another?

Many of us have experienced an almost instant feeling of familiarity, of having known someone our whole lives….for someone we’ve really only just met.

Just a few months ago, I was on a live webinar with Daily Marketing Coach. We were discussing our ‘ideal client’, who they are, what they like, and how we can better connect with one another. Another participant had provided a description of her ideal client (avatar)….as the moderator read the details and asked her questions, I typed into the webinar chat box, “Wow that sounds like me!”

The moderator picked up my remark and said, “Carla, Rachel says she is your avatar.” Since then, we have connected one on one and discovered that not only am I her ideal client, but she is mine! How cool is that?

Working with Carla has helped me to overcome a huge barrier in my own ‘work from home’ career.

How do you know that what you are doing has value? How do you know that anyone will identify with you? How do you banish those feelings of, “Oh, I’m just little old me…what I think or do doesn’t matter?” Read More→

Comments Comments Off on Who Are Your Heart Sisters?

Rachel Williamson, Business as a Calling bloggerbusinesswomanWhat is your big why? Why are you on this earth and what are you doing to fulfill your biggest why? Many business training programs call on us to state our big why….is it money, fame, lifestyle? We could refer to our ‘why’ as our ‘calling’….what we are ‘supposed to be doing’ with our lives.

What do you think of when you learn that someone has a ‘calling’? Many of us would immediately think of someone who plans to be a pastor, missionary, seminary teacher or other humanitarian or charitable career.

For many years I struggled with the idea that working in the business world was somehow a ‘lesser’ career, a ‘not so spiritual’ activity, that somehow ‘takes away from’ honor and nobility because it revolves around ‘making money’.
