When the Smoke Clears…

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on When the Smoke Clears…

Takiela Bynum - Hope for Young WomenToday is a day similar to yesterday and the day before and so forth. Life has become dull and predictable and you’ve become comfortable with the mundane. It’s the same ole thing, day in and day out, until one day right in the middle of your mediocrity, it happens….hazy sun

A quick eye blinding flash, a deafening noise that leaves your ears ringing, your world quakes and you stumble. You try to regain your bearings but you’re unsteady and dazed. You fall. Your senses are stunned and you try to shake it off and get up but you’re overwhelmed with confusion, panic, and terror all at once. The paralyzing fear grips your body preventing any logical thoughts from entering your mind. You want to scream but the sound is trapped somewhere deep inside you.

You close your eyes tightly and hope this is all a bad dream. You may even pinch yourself as a last resort in quest for proof of a dream. You open your eyes and nothing has changed. As your stomach knots you come to the sad realization that it isn’t a bad dream, it’s real.

This is how we feel when a BOMB has been dropped in our lives. The BOMB can be the death of a loved one, the loss of a job, bad news from the doctor, the discovery of a spouse’s infidelity, etc. It can be anything that drops in your life unexpected, leaving you completely floored. (Notice how similar the after affects are when a BOMB has been dropped in your life both literally and figuratively.) Read More→

Russian Roulette

Takiela Bynum - Hope for Young Women

Isaiah 14:24
The LORD Almighty has sworn, ‘Surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will happen.’ NIV

Droplets formed on the rim of her brow and she clenched the life in her belly. Her body quivered while uncontrollable sobs escaped her petrified soul.bullets

Again…he spun the barrel of the gun, gave a quick flick of the wrist and pressed it against her temple.

He enjoyed the game of life and death, also known as Russian Roulette.

Before I took my first breath, while in the secret most inner parts of my mother’s womb, evil attempted to murder me at the hands of my father.

This was the first of many attempts on my life, but my God had a plan and a purpose that would not be thwarted by anything or anyone according to Job 42:2 which states: Read More→

A Lifeline for the Drowning

Posted by: | Comments (2)

Takiela Bynum - Hope for Young WomenHave you ever been in a place, mentally, where darkness consumed you? Has it ever seemed as though the sole purpose of darkness was to completely annihilate or utterly destroy you?moonlit night

There have been times in my life that I thought darkness would literally kill me. It was as though my resistance strengthened its resentment. I felt like I was drowning. My screams and cries had gone unheard. No matter how hard I tried, my attempts went unnoticed. I began to lose the will to fight. Ultimately, I gave up on life.

Some of us will have times when we feel like giving up. In those moments, the only glimmer of hope I can offer you is Christ. When life became too hard for me Jesus had to become my lifeline. He became the lifesaver that kept me afloat in a sea of darkness. When I started to sink it was His word that I desperately clung to for life.

The Scripture 2 Corinthians 12:9,10 (NIV) became one of my favorites. I memorized it and when I felt weak, I’d whisper it…repeatedly. Read More→

Unleashing the Lioness: Determined and Destined

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on Unleashing the Lioness: Determined and Destined

Takiela Bynum - Hope for Young Women

Philippians 2:13, “for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”

You once had a dream, remember? The one you had before “life” happened? That thing you wanted to do more than anything else in the world? It consumed your thoughts as a child and you would often pretend to be what you dreamed. Do you remember?

The LionessSome of you will have dreams that will expose your passion(s) and in turn your passion(s) will point you to your purpose in Christ.

Of course, it doesn’t always happen as easy as the three steps I mentioned above, honestly it’s harder for most people. Much prayer is needed along with asking God for revelation and seeking Him for guidance and direction as well as daily doses of His word. Although, there are many more steps that the process of purpose entails, one of the most important is understanding that your determination is key in getting to your destination.

Now, let us turn to the lioness. Read More→

Unleashing the Lioness: Poised and Positioned

Takiela Bynum - Hope for Young Women

“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” 1 Corinthians 16:13

According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary the definition of poised is “to put into readiness – be ready.” I looked up the word positioned and it means “an act of placing or arranging.” It also stated that position is “a point of view that is adopted and held on to.”

lionessAgain, I’m drawn to the lioness.

The lioness is aggressive by nature which is why she is the hunter. She is extremely intelligent and proves it by being strategic with purpose and coordinate with her attacks.

When she is locked in on her target, is she not ready and in place…poised and positioned? Read More→

Unleashing the Lioness

Takiela Bynum - Hope for Young WomenI praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” -Psalms 139: 14lioness

This particular verse in Psalms is quoted numerous times, however, I often wonder if we are grasping the full meaning of this Scripture.

Young women do you realize that you are the living sum of both fear and wonder? That statement in and of itself is powerful: fear plus wonder equals YOU.

When I think of the fear coupled with wonder my soul is automatically drawn to the lioness. The lioness is strong and sleek, the step in her stride is with profound purpose. She is simply stunning. With her paw (hand) she is capable of killing and caressing and with her roar (voice) she will seize and capture you simultaneously. She too is the embodiment of both fear and wonder. Read More→

Top Model

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on Top Model

Takiela Bynum - Hope for Young WomenDo you have to have the perfect smile, hair, or body to be a top model? Of course not! However, that’s what society would have us to believe.vintage lady

Being a model has nothing to do with your physical appearance but everything to do with the condition of your heart. No, this is not another one of those corny “it’s not what’s on the outside, but what’s on the inside” articles, but it may get us to consider our own image, spiritually speaking of course.

Models are beautiful no doubt. They usually have some type of physical attribute that is mesmerizing to others. That attribute is usually a generous amount of beauty. In addition to their gorgeous faces, they are typically thin as well. At some point in their life they become discovered (whether intentional or not) and finally fame and fortune are soon to follow. Takiela Bynum - Hope for Young WomenSomewhere along this journey called life we have become consumed with vanity. We ask our physicians for medication to thicken our eye lashes (Latisse) when we should ask God for the spiritual remedy to the foot with daisyailment in our souls.

It seems as if image and fashion have replaced integrity and faith. Don’t get me wrong, image and fashion has its place in my life, however, it is not who I am nor does it represent what I’m about.

A few years ago I had the privilege of talking with a representative of Soles4Souls and
the conversation had a huge impact on my life. It also caused me to realize I not only take things for granted but that I also had a “vanity” stain on my heart. Read More→

Detoxing Depression

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on Detoxing Depression

Takiela Bynum - Hope for Young WomenBeing a mom is by far one of the most rewarding responsibilities in the world. Let’s face it, mothers help to shape the world we live in. We are bringing in the next generation of presidents, physicians, attorneys, law makers, police officers, teachers, pastors, leaders in Christ, etc. As Christian mothers, we are the carriers of hope.

Sad WomanHowever, sometimes mothers put on a façade and no one knows we are secretly suffering. We try to exert our strength by what we do and how well we do it. Although perfection is unattainable we constantly push ourselves to reach for the sky but the pull of gravity brings us back to earth. We can’t do it all and sometimes that reality in itself can lead to depression. Read More→
