Principles of Success: Commit All You Do to the Lord

Principles of Success, by Pebbles JacoboPrinciple:  Commit All You Do to the Lord

Scripture(s): Proverbs 16:13  “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”

What or who are you committed to? Commitment to God arises from faith in His promises. Being committed to God leads to obedience to His commands. When has He led you astray? I love how direct and matter of fact the scripture tends to be. Take today’s scripture for example: Action = Result. Read More→

Principles of Success: Don’t Be Prideful

Principles of Success, by Pebbles JacoboPrinciple:  Don’t Be Prideful

Scripture: Proverbs 13:10 “Pride only breeds quarrel, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.

Pride is a tricky thing. Take pride in the excellence of your craftsmanship or skill in your work but be cautious because pride is one of those double-edged swords. On the one edge taking pride in a job well done is a good thing but on the other edge pride can easily trip one you up and cost you everything.

Pride can cause your responses to simple inquiries to be defensive. Pride can cause you to bring emotion into a disagreement when all that should be there were the facts. Pride can blind you to the warning signs that something is wrong. Pride can be your downfall and cost you everything, including clients, friends, family and reputation. Read More→

Principles of Success: Build a Solid Foundation

Principle:  Build a Solid Foundation

Scripture(s): Proverbs 14:1 “The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.

Wouldn’t you know it, EVERY time I sat down to write on this topic, building a solid foundation, the song about building your house on the rocks and sand kept coming to mind. SO, taking the cue, let’s start with “The Wise Man Built His House.”

The wise man built his house upon the rock
The wise man built his house upon the rock
The wise man built his house upon the rock
And the rain came tumbling down

Oh, the rain came down
And the floods came up
The rain came down
And the floods came up
The rain came down
And the floods came up
And the wise man’s house stood firm

The foolish man built his house upon the sand
The foolish man built his house upon the sand
The foolish man built his house upon the sand
And the rain came tumbling down Read More→

Principles of Success: Focus on Your Goal

Principle:  Focus on Your Goal

Scripture(s): Proverbs 4:25-27 “Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; keep your foot from evil.”

Can I ask you the question, “Why are you in business?” If you work from home, why do you work from home? What is your goal(s)? No, seriously. Take a moment to answer that question to yourself before reading on.

Ready?

If you are like many others who work from home, your answer was unintentionally ambiguous, like ‘to make money’ or ‘to pay my bills’ or ‘to spend more time with my children.’ While those are good reasons to work from home, they are not clearly defined goals. Read More→

Principle:  Work Diligently

Scripture(s): Proverbs 10:4-5 “Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth. He who gathers crops in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.”

Wow, did you read today’s verse above? Strong words! How about this one: “The sluggard craves and gets nothing, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied” (Proverbs 13:4).

We are living in a culture filled with immediate gratification all around. The possibilities are endless. I’m sure you’ve read or watched the advertisements at some point. If not, they go something like this:

Want to get rich quick? Buy this kit!”

Want to lose weight right away? Take this pill.”

Want to look and feel instantly younger? Have this procedure done!”

They are all surrounded on instanteous gratification. The problem is that if everything’s instant, what do we have to work for? Read More→

Principles of Success: Invest in the Proper Equipment

Principle:  Invest in the Proper Equipment

Scripture(s): Proverbs 14:4 “Where there are no oxen, the manger is empty, but from the strength of an ox comes an abundant harvest.”

Over the last several weeks we have been looking at strategies, tips and principles of success outlined in the book of Proverbs. This week’s posts alone included putting your plans into action and hiring trustworthy people. Today we set our eyes on investing in the proper equipment.

A successful business cannot make something out of nothing. There are always tools of the trade, whether intellectual, virtual or physical. Selling a car without an actual car to sell won’t lead you to success. Rather, it will lead you to ruin as people will realize you have nothing to actually give for their hard-earned money after making the sale. Read More→

Principles of Success: Hire Trustworthy People

Principles of Success, by Pebbles Jacobo

Principle:  Hire Trustworthy People

Scripture(s): Proverbs 27:18 “The one who guards a fig tree will eat its fruit, and whoever protects their master will be honored.”
Proverbs 28:20 “A faithful person will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.”

As a virtual assistant you may think it odd that I myself have assistants to help with the load, but all in all it works out. I put my people through a rough set of tests before I fully trust them with my clients. After all, my clients are literally my bread and butter. I mean, seriously, I’ve been working hard for many years to build my reputation and to build this business into what it is today, so I don’t work with just anyone.

There was a time when I had extra tasks/projects and people needing work, so I shared. We’re taught to share and share alike, but be careful with that. Seriously. When it comes to your business, you want to hire trustworthy people to work with you, not just any Joe Smoe. This will open up your time for tasks toward active growth. After all, if you’re not growing, well, your bank account will show the results. Read More→

Principles of Success: Put Your Plans into Action

Principle:  Put Your Plans into Action

Scripture(s): Proverbs 14:23  “All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.”

What good is a plan if you never put it into action? Of course, there are some plans we hope to never put into action – emergency and contingency plans. But I’m not talking about those plans. The plans I am talking about are plans for success and growth, whether for your business or for your life in general.

I remember my first year in business. My business partner and I discussed goals we’d like to see reached. They were great goals, too. It seemed that one thing after another kept getting in the way and those goals were not entirely reached.  It’s one thing to set goals but another thing entirely to put plans into action to achieve those goals. Though I set my goals, I neglected to also identify action plans for reaching those goals. Read More→

Principles of Success: Plan Ahead

Principles of Success

Principle:  Plan Ahead

Scripture(s): Proverbs 21:5 “The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.

Planning ahead. For some of us it is an action ingrained in us; for many others we’d rather be running by the seat of our pants taking care of things just in the nick of time. So, WHY is it so good to plan ahead? Read what Matthew Henry’s Commentary has to say about Proverbs 21:5:

Here is, 1. The way to be rich. If we would live plentifully and comfortably in the world, we must be diligent in our business, and not shrink from the toil and trouble of it, but prosecute it closely, improving all advantages and opportunities for it, and doing what we do with all our might; yet we must not be hasty in it, nor hurry ourselves and others with it, but keep doing fair and softly, which, we say, goes far in a day… 2. The way to be poor. Those that are hasty, that are rash and inconsiderate in their affairs, and will not take time to think, that are greedy of gain, by right or wrong, and make haste to be rich by unjust practices or unwise projects, are in the ready road to poverty. Their thoughts and contrivances, by which they hope to raise themselves, will ruin them.

In other words, if you want to be successful, plan ahead. If you want to be poor, live life by the seat of your pants constantly making hasty decisions. Ouch. As God’s Word does, Proverbs 6:6-8 does an even better job of explaining the business of planning ahead: Read More→

Principles of Success: Confidence Amidst Chaos

Principles of SuccessPrinciple:  Confidence Amidst Chaos

Scripture(s): Proverbs 10:25, 29 -30  “When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever… The way of the Lord is a refuge for the blameless, but it is the ruin of those who do evil. The righteous will never be uprooted, but the wicked will not remain in the land.”

Has everything in your life run perfectly smooth? I don’t know about you, but that’s never been the case in my life or business. There’s always something to go awry. It’s not always the known variables that throw a monkey wrench in things. Often times the unknown variables create more havoc than the known!

When a woman gets married, her choice of a bridal party is important. They not only should be close family and friends who support the upcoming union, but those who will help the bride on her journey. The maid of honor is a special position and when chosen wisely things run smoother. Take, for example, my own wedding. Things didn’t work out with my initial maid of honor. I was getting seriously stressed with the weight of planning our wedding, and, this being my first time; I did not know the duties of the maid of honor extended much beyond planning the bridal shower and looking good next to the bride.
