Review: ENCHANTED CHRISTMAS

Can you feel it? That little edge of crispness in the air and the undercurrent of excitement in the stores? The holidays are right around the corner and you know what that means. Decorations, baking and family? Uh…no. It’s time to tuck into snuggly pajamas, grab a steaming cup of cocoa and curl up on the couch with your favorite holiday movies!

Every year, Hallmark Channel outdoes itself on the family movie front and this year is no different. With TWENTY-ONE new holiday features premiering on the network’s “Countdown to Christmas” this season, there is plenty of sweet, family friendly goodness to go around.

One of these movies in particular has piqued my interest. It’s called Enchanted Christmas*. Here’s the description of the movie:

Young widow, Laura Trudeau (played by Alexa PenaVega) was a remarkable dancer. Now working as a project manager in LA, she is tasked to renovate a rundown hotel lodge, in her hometown of Rosemont, Utah and have it ready by Christmas eve. She is stunned to run into her former love and dance partner Ricardo Archuleta, (Carlos PenaVega) who she discovers is in rehearsals for The Christmas Eve shows grand finale, with his new dance partner Taylor (Chelsie Hightower, “Dancing with the Stars”).  When Taylor has an audition abroad, Laura once again finds herself back in Ricardo’s arms. Feelings are rekindled, and with both the hotel opening and the show in jeopardy, Laura has to make some difficult decisions, both personally and professionally.

You can check out the trailer here.   http://www.hallmarkchannel.com/videos/preview-enchanted-christmas

Doesn’t that look great? Who doesn’t love ballroom dancing? And you throw in Christmas? Seriously!

If you thought you recognized the main character, Laura, you probably did. Alexa PenaVega skyrocketed to fame in the Spy Kids series of movies. Now she’s all grown up and co-starring with her husband, Carlos PenaVega. They even contributed their musical talents by recording one of the songs for the movie. Is there anything they can’t do?

Enchanted Christmas airs on November 12th on Hallmark Channel at 8:00 pm/7:00 central. Don’t miss it!

*Enchanted Christmas is a Mission Pictures International and Gabriel Productions, LLC production. Cindy Bond and Gene Davis serve as Executive producers. James Wilberger and Jarrod Phillips are producers. Terry Cunningham directed from a script by Rick Garman and Catherine Y. Friday.  #HallmarkChannel #EnchantedChristmas #CountdowntoChristmas #Missionpicturesintl

Review: Restless by Jennie Allen

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on Review: Restless by Jennie Allen

restlessAbout Restless
Restless explores the fact that God has called each of us to do great things in his name, and then helps us discover what that might mean for each of us individually. Jennie says, “We are called to dream but we’re afraid to. But because we are called, when we don’t act on it we become restless—restless to find purpose, to make a difference in the world, to matter.”

Jennie doesn’t suggest women add one more thing to their to-do list, but instead invites them to stop and listen where they are. She frees them to be themselves and to see themselves as valuable. In addition to this permission to dream she helps them get over themselves and their issues and then offers a simple process on highly designed journal pages to identify the raw materials—the unique threads—they’ve been given by digging into five areas:
–  Gifts
–  Suffering
–  Places
–  People
–  Passions

Using her own story and that of women with whom she has walked through this process as examples, Jennie weaves in the story of Joseph the dreamer and how God used his threads to fit into the greater story of God. Untangling the threads of our lives and assembling them together in one place reveals a beautiful plan designed by the Creator himself: God’s Agenda + my threads + the need + the Holy Spirit = my purpose

And since living out our purpose is often filled with uncertainties Jennie addresses the doubts, fears, and challenges that hold women back from what they’ve been called to do. This repositioning of their lives is not a promise that all things will be perfect, or will go perfectly, but a promise that it will be the start of the best part of life—the part that completes what we were made for.

What a breathe of fresh air Jennie Allen provides in Restless. The kit that I received is actually a video-based small group Bible study, but I used it on my own. I know, I’m a real rebel. 🙂 Read More→

I am a big VeggieTales fan. I love that I can sit down and watch the DVDs with my kids and not even have to worry for a moment about content – they are always family-friendly, Biblically based and entertaining. It’s a Meaningful Life is the perfect DVD to pop in this Christmas season. Snuggle up on a gray or snowy day (those snowy days are just around the corner!) and enjoy some quality time with your kids. The best part? DVDs like this one spark easy conversations with our kids on faith topics!

NBC Offers Up Another Family Movie Night

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on NBC Offers Up Another Family Movie Night

Procter & Gamble and Walmart will premiere their third made-for-TV family movie, “A Walk in My Shoes,” starring Nancy Travis, Philip Winchester and Yara Martinez on Friday, Dec. 3, 2010 at 8/7C on NBC.

“A Walk in My Shoes” makes viewers stop and think, “What would I learn if I stepped into someone else’s life?” Stressed-out high school teacher Trish Fahey (Nancy Travis, “Three Men and a Baby,” “Becker”) can’t understand her students’ lack of effort in the classroom and why their parents don’t seem to care. This is especially true of Justin Kremer (Cameron Deane Stewart), a popular, skateboard-loving, basketball star who is underperforming in her class. Trish has him suspended from the basketball team and quickly chalks up the situation as a case of bad parenting. Read More→

DVD Review: The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything- A Veggietales Movie

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on DVD Review: The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything- A Veggietales Movie

Another great Veggietales movie is now on DVD. My kids loved The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything. While it’s not based directly on a Bible story as most of the Veggie movies are, it still has a great lesson to teach – doing what’s right.

Larry and his fellow pirates (Mr. Lunt and Pa Grape) find themselves out to sea when a brave young princess uses her special orb to call for help. The orb is supposed to bring heroes to her aid, but when they arrive she isn’t sure that the orb has done it’s job. Can Larry and friends help rescue her brother from an evil pirate?

My kids loved this movie. My three year old is now considering becoming a pirate when he grows up. 🙂

The Nativity Story

Join Mary (Keisha Castle-Hughes) and Joseph (Oscar Isaac) on an incredible journey of hope and discovery. Epic in its scope, yet intimate in it’s portrayal of this historical family, this "wonderful film" (Bill Zwecker, Chicago Sun Times) is "a family feature that will be cherished for years to come!"
