Review: Chloe & Isabel

Posted by: | Comments (2)

Enter to win a pair of Chloe and Isabel Crystal Stud Earrings!

ci-logo3It doesn’t happen often, but every once in a while I’m given the opportunity to review the products of a home-based business here on CWAHM. I’m so excited to share with you my experiences with Chloe & Isabel recently.

When Shana contacted me, I’ll be honest, I hadn’t even heard of Chloe & Isabel. I soon learned that the company has been around for a while and offers gorgeous jewelry as well as a home-based business opportunity. When Shana offered me the chance to review a few pieces of the jewelry that I saw on the website, I jumped at the chance. Here are the pieces I chose:

necklace2

necklaceI LOVE this necklace. Not just because it’s gorgeous, but because it’s so versatile. You can wear it long (see the picture on the left) or take it apart – it comes in two pieces – and wear it short (see the picture on the right). You can even wear the short piece that you remove as a bracelet! Super cute and totally useful for us moms on the go.

I put it on with my outfit to wear to church this last Sunday only to discover that it was too long to go with the top I had chosen. I didn’t have time to go searching through my closet for another shirt, so I simply unclasped it, made it short and headed out the door.

Now THAT is my kind of jewelry!

ring2How beautiful is this ring?! And I can honestly say that it’s ten times prettier in real than in this picture. I put it on with a simple silver top and some silver earrings and wore it to a baby shower for my sister-in-law last weekend. Needless to say, my daughter (12 yo) didn’t even have to tell me to change clothes. I think she might have even been impressed, which is HARD TO DO with a twelve year old girl full of fashion sense. 🙂

earrings2And last, but definitely not least, are these awesome earrings. No, that’s not me in the picture, but those are the earrings I chose. They are simple and elegant and go with just about every outfit I own. They are lightweight and have a cool snap-clasp that makes them easy to put on and take off. It’s all about comfort as we get older, right? 😉

As you can see, I had a BALL choosing jewelry and reviewing it. I can’t say enough about the quality and beauty of these pieces. I like very simple, primarily silver pieces, but Chloe and Isabel has a ton of bright, colorful pieces as well. Here’s a sample (below) and you can find lots more at Shana’s website:  www.piedmontjewelbox.com

Review: Leonisa Shapewear

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on Review: Leonisa Shapewear

Many of you have seen my posts about my weight loss over the last few months. So, when I was asked to review some shapewear products, I thought it would be fun to see how they fit my new, smaller figure. Maybe I could shave another inch off! 🙂

I chose the Invisible Control Tank and the Strapless Balconet Bra and was really pleased with them both. The Invisible Control Tank is just that – invisible. It fits tightly and helps keep on the jigglies from, well, jiggling. It’s lightweight and I really liked that it didn’t show through my clothes or pucker up like other shapewear tanks I’ve tried in the past.

The Strapless Balconet Bra was very different from anything I normally wear. It took me a little while to get used to it, but once I did I found that I really like the way it “shapes.” It goes down further than many bras and gives you a sleeker look, keeping things in the places where they should be. 🙂

Overall, I was very pleased with both of these items and will certainly be heading over to Leonisa.com for more shapewear products!

Review: Marketing Banner from Build A Sign

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on Review: Marketing Banner from Build A Sign

.

buildasign2One of the hardest parts of running your own business is marketing. Because I run a website, I don’t do a lot of in-person marketing, so I tend to struggle at times with knowing how to best present CWAHM.

I do quite a bit of speaking and usually have a table at the back of the room where I can sell my books. So, when I was contacted by Build A Sign about reviewing a banner created by them, I was thrilled.

I hopped on to their website, BuildASign.com, and easily uploaded my logo and created the banner. I knew that I also needed a way to hang the banner, so I added on some plastic hangers for the corners. Read More→

Crock Pot Review

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on Crock Pot Review

Jill Hart, CWAHM FounderAbout a month ago, my friend and business partner (on RadiantLit.com and FictionAddict.com) saw an announcement that Crock-Pot would be releasing a brand new slow cooker. She tuned into the live webcast online and was immediately entranced.

Lori TwichellShe called me and to me all about this Crock-Pot that was different than any of its predecessors. This one, she said to me, could be programmed. I have one that allowed what I guess is an “old-fashioned” Crock-Pot. The kind where you turn the dial to HIGH, LOW, or WARM … and that’s it. But this one has a clock and shiny buttons and lots of choices on the front. What really grabbed Lori’s attention was when they said “You can program when you want to eat dinner and it will be done.” I’ll admit, I was hooked once she told me that as well.

Now I am nearly giddy with excitement to be able to share our review of the Crock-Pot My Time Slow Cooker!

Lori: When I got it, I was immediately surprised at how pretty it was. (Hey, I know – but seriously this is a pretty slow cooker!) I took it out of the box and loved the design instantly. Shiny stainless steel on the outside reflected the kitchen (yes I had to clean off some of the counters when I took pictures!) and it really does look beautiful sitting on my counter. crockpot 1

The design also shows tremendous insight. This is the first Crock-Pot I’ve ever owned that has a switch in the center of the heating base. This is to be sure that the slow cooker will not turn on without the stoneware in it. I love that! Though it hasn’t happened often, on occasion we have had a kid turn on the pot without the stoneware in it yet – or forget to turn off the manual switch at the end. This design feature will help eliminate that issue. I also love the tilted handle on the lid. It seems more secure than previous slow cookers I’ve owned and with the tilt that’s built in, it allows you to more easily open the lid with the steam escaping away from you.  The control pad on the front is clear, easy to figure out and even has a backlight. Review for Parents: Nintendo Wii U

Posted by: | Comments (1)

The Wii U was released on November 18, 2012 and if you didn’t grab one already it may be too late to get one for Christmas 2012.  Wii U is the newest console to be released from Nintendo and is the successor to the Wii.  It is the 6th console from Nintendo starting with the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985.

The Wii U comes in two different flavors a white colored version with 8 GB of internal storage for $300; and a black colored version with 32 GB of Flash storage for $350, which includes the game Nintendo Land, Wii U stand, and a dock for the GamePad.   An HDMI cable, sensor bar, and GamePad are included with both versions.

We purchased the Black Wii U and New Super Mario Brothers Wii U, are pleased with that decision.  For $50 the inclusion of Nintendo Land, extra storage space, and GamePad doc seem like a no brainer.  New Super Mario Brothers Wii U is exactly what you would expect out of a Mario game but also has great new options thanks to the GamePad.

Our 7 year old son says this is “the greatest console EVER released.”  He loves both Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros. U
games.  He played with this thing as long as we would let him the day of release.  But don’t be surprised when you find your kids still playing the old Wii games on the new Wii U.  Makes a dad wonder why he just got done waiting in line for 6 hours.

Our 11 year old daughter is not easily impressed and wasn’t very excited for the Wii U release.  After playing with it for a few hours she has changed her mind and really enjoys the new GamePad and the new experience it brings to the games.

As a dad and hardcore gamer, after waiting in line for 6 plus hours I have a few issue I hope will be addressed in future updates with the Wii U.

·         The load time between menus can be as long as 20 seconds.  This seems like an eternity in today’s world of super-fast computers.

·         The firmware update required when you get the Wii U home takes around an hour.  This feels like a long time when all you want to do is play, so plan accordingly.  The good news is that you can hold off on this upgrade until later if you wish to.  I read a few articles warning users not to try and interrupt this upgrade in any way because it can cause your console to become totally inoperable. Homeshooling Curriculum Review: Art Class by Pat Knepley

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on Homeshooling Curriculum Review: Art Class by Pat Knepley

See the Light Art Class by Pat KnepleyLooking for some interesting material to add to your home schooling curriculum? Art Class from See the Light proves to be interesting, informative and captivating! Not only is Pat Knepley comfortable in front of the camera and easel, but she also knows how to keep your attention. The art lessons are set up like an art club with each lesson lasting approximately 10 minutes, giving students time to practice what they were just taught.

In this 10-disc series is a step-by-step series, Knepley speaks clearly and takes the time to explain various “how’s and why’s” throughout each lesson. Her delivery of the lesson grabs your attention, keeps it, and even makes adults WANT to learn to draw.  In my view, Pat Knepley is also a master weaver – artfully weaving in biblical truths all through each lesson.

Whether you homeschool or not, this series is a great addition. With so many schools doing away with the arts, you can supplement your child’s art lessons with these DVD’s. I can see even having your children’s friends over frequently for ‘art class’ with Pat Knepley. What a great way to educate and entertain at the same time.

Review: Charm Factory Charm Bracelet

Posted by: | Comments (1)

Charm FactoryRecently Charm Factory was kind enough to send me a charm bracelet full of hearts & symbols of faith. It’s such a great piece as well as a conversation starter. It’s well-made and you can choose from hundreds of charms! The charms on my bracelet are Sterling Silver, but on their website shows charms with colors, “jewels,” and even some gold options. These would make a fun gift for daughters, moms or any special women in your life. 🙂

How cute are these?! I was so excited when Dayspring sent school supplies my way to review. Each product has a Christian theme and is a great conversation starter for teens – or kids of any age. Dayspring has geared these for teens, but I sent them off to school with my 3rd grader and kindergartner (who wants to know why there is a “garden” in kindergarten – ha!) and they love them. I don’t think it’s ever too soon to start developing the witness in our children and teaching them to “be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” (1 Peter 3:15)

So, thumbs up to Dayspring for these great products – one more way that we can influence our kids to stand firm in their foundation of faith and be a light shining for Jesus at school.
