What Will YOU Bring?
ByAs with any birthday, the birth of Jesus entailed… the bringing of gifts. They weren’t just any gifts; they were gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Those that brought the gifts were indeed, wise; they knew the prophecies, and they had been anticipating the coming of the King of Kings. Each gift was brought with great significance.
The gold, fit only for a King; the frankincense, symbolized a sacrifice that was to come; the myrrh, used in Christ’s crucifixion and burial. The gifts that were given signified the wise men’s belief in the prophecy of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection; through their gifts, they declared, He was the Lord and Savior, the one and only, Son of God.
So if we too, believe in what God has done and also foretold through His Word; then are we looking for Christ’s return? Are we anticipating that He will come? We are assured in Revelation 22:12, “Behold, I am coming soon!” So are we watching? Are we waiting?
With all the gifts we gather this time of year, have we thought about a gift we’d give, that is fit for our King? Would we offer Him our home, the clothes off our back, a nice dinner, our new car, the money we have, or the investments we hold? What could we offer that would be sufficient and also significant? When we stand before Jesus upon the day of His return, what will we bring?
As we begin to ponder, we might even ask, “What would Jesus want for His birthday?” He told us clearly in Matthew 9:13, “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” He desires peace, not strife; forgiveness, not bitterness; and love, not hatred. Jesus wants nothing that we have; He wants, what we can give. He wants our lives wrapped in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.
As you seek after these gifts for your King, you’ll find that God will send opportunities for you to love, opportunities for you to be joyful, opportunities for you to be peaceful, opportunities for you to be kind and good, and opportunities for you to be faithful. Go on a shopping spree and see just how many of these gifts that you can gather; God may just give you the opportunity of a lifetime that could have a lasting effect on all eternity.
Don’t wait until it’s too late, when you’re standing before Jesus, realizing that you have nothing to give. Prepare…just as we all do this time of year. As we look forward to the arrival of our King, He’s waiting with great anticipation, and wondering…..
“What will you bring?”
