Friendly Year-End Reminders for an Organized New Year

It’s hard to believe we only have a hand full of days left in 2008. Although I am amazed it went so fast (mom always told me that would happen when I got older), part of me is a little bit excited for the coming New Year.

I look forward to new beginnings with great anticipation. It reminds of when I was a little girl and starting my first day of school, or when I got my first job… your expectations are so high and the possibilities are endless.

I am continuously in awe of how WAHM’s keep it all together this time of year. Between the holiday festivities, kids on winter break and, oh yeah, your job… there are so many things to manage.

I personally like using the last day of the year as a reminder for doing certain tasks around the house and for my job…I find that it’s easier for me to remember when it was the last time I did a certain tasks. Who can forget December 31st?

To help you start your year off on the right foot, here are a few little year-end reminders for your business and household…

BUSINESS TASKS

1. Clean out your files. Take one morning to clean through your files. Toss (preferably recycle) out anything that you know can go, make sure your files are correctly labeled and your project deadlines are documented.

2. Clear off your desk. Taking the time to clean off your desk for the New Year is always a great way to get yourself motivated for the coming 12 months. Sort through folders, clean off old post-it notes and take the empty cups to the sink!

3. Get your new calendar. Having your new calendar in place and your deadlines documented can be a vital tool to a successful new year. Take a morning to write in all the important dates and reminders for the coming year in your planner!

HOUSEHOLD TASKS

1. Clean out the closets. Since you are cooped up in the house with potential crumby weather, now is a great time to clean out the closets! Winter is a great time to donating old coats, boots and hats to shelters… they can really use them if you’re not.

2. Check your spice rack. Don’t forget that spices have expiration dates too! Starting a tradition of cleaning out your spice rack at the beginning of the year is a great routine to get into.

3. Sort through storage. Like cleaning out the closets, now is a good time to sort through items in storage. If you did any holiday decorating, before you put it back into storage – make sure to see if there is anything you can donate or get rid of.

Getting into routines makes keeping things organized so much easier! Have a blessed holiday season!
