Social Networking Changed Everything – The New Marketing & PR Model

No comments yet. Your thoughts are welcome »

It’s pretty obvious that the marketing of today has changed.  You have newspapers going virtual/web only, Twitter and Facebook replacing postcards and phone calls, and potential clients now being the main target of your press releases as opposed to editors.  It’s all changing and to do PR today, you need to change with it.  The good news is that it’s never been easier. The bad news, you need to learn a new way to do things. Fortunately, there are tips that can make it easier and I’m here to show you a few.

First, no one can deny the power of social networking.  And those that do are just plain wrong. I’ve been in business since 1985 and I liken this to way back when emails became a way of life.  Many still contended they wanted to do it the old fashioned way and nothing would beat a letter. (I know it’s hard to even imagine this today.) It wasn’t long until they realized their error, but by then their competition was way ahead of them. Don’t make the same mistake now.  You absolutely need to get with it and get on board. I can practically guarantee you within weeks you’ll be hooked and wondering why you ever hesitated. It’s so easy, and the potential so great, you need to start today.

Let’s break it down.  Twitter first.  Forget all the “I don’t care what they ate for lunch excuses,” that’s where your competition and peers are and you do need to be there too. Sure you do have a few tweeters who will update you on the latest hot dog they ate, but that’s rare.  What you do have is more and more businesses networking and connecting with each other in ways never thought possible.  It’s also more than just networking back and forth, you can have chats, host events, get more publicity for your articles and press releases & even announce your seminars and radio shows.  And that’s not even the half of it.  There are entire books written on this, so my first recommendation is to get them.  Why struggle and find your way around when you can easily read the tips from those who know exactly what you need to succeed. Praying…for the Enemy

cherie Enjoying Life NOWby Cherie Hill

We’ve all heard, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” Growing up…we might have even truly believed that saying. But as we grow older, we discover that we would actually prefer the sticks and stones…broken bones heal. The fact of the matter is that words hurt, and sometimes they cut deep enough to leave permanent scars. Before we know it, the root of bitterness and anger take hold and we find ourselves wrestling with how to bring justice to our suffering.

At times, there are people in our lives that we just stop praying for; we’ve all done it at some time or other, maybe without really realizing it. We beg God to have mercy on us for the wrongs that we’ve done, but cry out for justice upon those who have committed wrongs towards us. We find ourselves shutting people out who might live life contrary to our beliefs; those who don’t quite meet up to our expectations. (I’m certain there is someone you can think of at this very moment whose attitudes and actions irritate or inconvenience you.) They can bug us so much that it becomes “painful.” If they’ve hurt us in some way, either intentionally or unintentionally, we tend to shut them out. We “sign off” from them and forget the heart of God who is relentlessly committed to sinners. Jesus died for the ungodly. That includes you and me…and those who hurt us or offend us. That means we sin against God when we cease praying for them. Read the rest of this entry »

Nine Reasons Why Mentoring Matters to You

No comments yet. Your thoughts are welcome »

There are many roles we play or hats we wear in our lives. We are professionals, family members, brothers, sisters, co-workers, leaders, coaches, friends, parents, and neighbors to name just a few. While you may not wear all of the hats I listed, you can likely add several more that I left out! Many of these roles are a given – we don’t have much choice of having the role – they come with being a responsible adult.

Because of these many roles, we find ourselves very busy. Many tasks and priorities find us perhaps busier now than we have ever been before!

With these two factors, many roles and little time, it may seem absurd to write an article that encourages taking on yet another role and adding another task to your over-booked calendar. But that is exactly what I am going to do. In this article I’m going to show you why, despite the competition for our time and energy, being a mentor is one of the best things you can do. Hi Jill:

I wanted to share with you one of God’s great miracles.

You see, I found your web site because of a book I checked out of the library titled “Work @ Home” by Glynnis Whitwer.  I was trying to find out how I could work from home.  In her book she references your web site CWAHM.com as a resource for current openings. Read the rest of this entry »

Mentoring: Answering the Call of Discipleship

The Real Challenge

Disciples and mentors are both called to action. Disciples are called to learn or follow and mentors are called to teach or coach. Jesus called Simon and his brother Andrew into discipleship, “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” (Mark 1:17) Whereas Bell (2002) discussed how a mentor is called as a teacher, a guide, and a sage. (p. 10 – 14). As a mentor, a leader must show humility in that he or she can also learn from the protégé. Bell (2002) continued asserting that mentoring is about surrendering to the process rather than controlling it, mentoring is about “providing the gift of advice, and helping the protégé to become a self directed learner.” (p. xxi).

Humility was the first and very important attribute Jesus pointed out in the Beatitudes. “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3). Winston (2002) reminded us “To be poor in spirit is to recognize that you can hold more, and to recognize this means that you must be humble.” (p. 23). A mentor must first realize that he or she will also benefit from the mentoring process. Though mentoring is intended primarily to help the protégé, there are definite gains to be made by everyone engaged in the relationship. Read the rest of this entry »

Where to start when wanting to get organized

Have you heard the song Empty Me, by Chris Sligh? I absolutely love that song, it brings me to my knees on certain days. Each line of that song is a reality of my life for so many reasons. I find that on days when I am being challenged I will sing the chorus in my head over and over praising His name.

Empty me of the selfishness inside

Every vain ambition and the poison of my pride

And any foolish thing my heart holds to Lord empty me of me so I can be filled with You!

I find on days when I am so consumed with “stuff”, I need stop and empty myself of me.  I think most people who meet me (and learn what I do), believe that it’s not hard for me to be organized; after all, I am an organizer. The reality is that it’s just as hard for me to be organized as it is for you Read the rest of this entry »
