You Never Know When You Are Starting a Tradition

No comments yet. Your thoughts are welcome »

As I write this, the scent of peanut butter lingers on my hands. I just finished making “spider snacks” with my 6-year-old son, Joshua, for a neighborhood Halloween party tomorrow, complete with crackers, peanut butter, pretzel legs and chocolate chips and raisins for the eyes and mouths.

Am I exhausted? Yes. Am I glad I did it (and caught it on film?) Very much so—partially, because last night I missed a moment to snuggle on the couch with him and watch “You’re The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.” Instead, I worked on my laptop and stopped for a moment to hear my favorite part, when Charlie Brown sadly says, “I gotta rock!”  (Who of us have not had days like that?)

Each day I am beginning to understand the incredible value of family traditions. Whether we realize it or not, our children are storing memories away that will be the traditions they remember. And as they grow older, and deal with difficulties in life, they will fall back on the things they remember from childhood that brought them comfort. Most likely, these will be the traditions you had as a family.

And you will never be able to predict what they value as a family tradition, compared to what you value. While you may believe that gathering around the Thanksgiving table and sharing how thankful you are each year is a special tradition, they may also remember other events that repeat themselves each year. Creating a Budget for your Business

No comments yet. Your thoughts are welcome »

by Corrie Petersen

We all have budgets for our family income, but do you have one for your business? If you don’t, how do you know how much money you can spend on advertising, marketing items, outsourcing, and business related items?

A budget is a must or you might find yourself spending more money than you have and you will struggle and may have to take money from your family income to make ends meet. That is not good because that can cause more financial issues than you ever dreamed possible.

Creating a budget for your business can be a little difficult if your income each month changes. The best thing to do is create a budget based on the money you know you have coming in each month. If you have more money in any given month you can either set that money aside or you can do a little more advertising or outsourcing that month.

Here are the steps needed to create a business budget.

• Income

List all of your income streams. Remember to include residual income that you may receive. Income from affiliate marketing is a little more difficult to count, but you can if you have income that is the same from sales that are gathered monthly.

• Expenses

Write down all monthly and yearly expenses that you will have for your business. These would include hosting, domain names, associations that you are a part of, outsourcing fees, and any other things that you will have related to your business. Make sure to include the monthly charge for each and the approximate due date. Read the rest of this entry »

Getting Started Working at Home

by Filoiann M. Wiedenhoff

It has been my experience that looking for a good home business online can be frustrating, challenging and down right discouraging. We hope that these companies will do what they say and say what they do, but time after time and scam after scam we are sorely disappointed. Legitimate companies do exist but how do we find them and what do we look for? Here are some tips to get you started on the right path.

1. Estimate: How much time, money and effort are you willing to invest into starting an online home business.

2. Evaluate: Find the “niche” business that’s right for you. Write down favorite past times, hobbies, and personal interests and evaluate which niche would you enjoy doing as a home business and which one is most profitable and marketable. We all want to make money online but statistics show that more people with an online business succeed doing a business they love, enjoy or have a passion for. Read the rest of this entry »

How To Start an Internet Home Based Business that’s Profitable

No comments yet. Your thoughts are welcome »

by Ms. Liz

Have you ever thought about starting a home based business on the internet? If you’re fed up with your job, your boss, the commute, poor pay and all the other non-sense, you’ve probably thought about it a time or two. With the state of our economy, the failing banks and job insecurity, the possibility of having your own internet business is comforting.

But if you’re like most people you’re probably not sure about how to get started, what it might cost or even if you have the talent.

Let me just start by saying, anyone can start a good business online. That means it doesn’t matter what you background, education or ideals. What you do need however is the intention, persistence and the drive. Not everyone has that. It’s going to be important for you to thoroughly analyze how important the security of a weekly paycheck is.

While these are important points to consider they are by no means show-stoppers. Nor am I suggesting that you quit your job cold turkey, not at all. What I am suggesting is that if you plan it out right, you could get started quickly by dedicating a few hours a week and perhaps a few hundred dollars, no it won’t take thousands.

Of course I won’t tell you that with a few clicks of your mouse you’ll be making millions, that’s not real and anyone that suggests that is someone to be wary of, however if you have a realistic approach and realize that with good planning, wise use of your time and using tools and training that are guaranteed, you stand to do pretty well. How To Get Your Family and Friends To Take Your Home Business Seriously

No comments yet. Your thoughts are welcome »

by Shelly Hill

I have been successfully working from home for the past 22 years. During those years, I have faced many challenges being a work at home mom.

One of the biggest challenges has been getting my family and friends to take my home business seriously. People often have the misconception that since you work from home, you can drop what you are doing on a moments notice and do something for them. These people can include your spouse, children, other family members, friends, schools and the neighbors.

During the early years, it was a struggle for me to get others to realize that I have certain business hours that I work. People would get upset that I wouldn’t take their personal chit chat phone calls, run errands for them, watch their children and other personal requests.

To solve this problem, I drafted up a personal letter that I printed out and gave to all of my family and friends. In this letter I stated what my home business was and what my working hours would be. I also clearly pointed out…that I would not be accepting personal chit chat phone calls, answering personal emails or doing any personal errands or activities, during my business working hours.
