When I think of the fall season, I often think of homemade pumpkin bread. What I really like about this recipe is the fact that you can use canned or fresh pumpkin. If you have a nut allergy, omit the walnuts.
This bread will freeze well and will keep up to 3 months in your freezer. You will want to tightly wrap your loaf in plastic wrap and then wrap 1-2 layers of aluminum foil over that.
Pumpkin Raisin Bread Recipe
3 cups sifted all-purpose white flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon table salt
1 cup vegetable oil
1 (16 ounce) can pureed pumpkin
1 cup coarsely chopped raisins
1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
3 cups granulated sugar

My family really enjoys this Pumpkin Crunch dessert recipe. It takes about 10 minutes to prepare and 50 minutes to bake.
This is a really nice dessert to serve at your Halloween parties or after your Thanksgiving holiday meal. I often entertain here at my home during the fall months, so I will make this recipe and serve it with some wonderful fall flavored teas and coffees.
If desired, you can substitute the canned pumpkin with some fresh puree, although when I substitute, I also add in 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice to give it additional flavor.
Pumpkin Crunch Recipe
1 (15 oz.) can pumpkin puree
1 (12 oz.) can evaporated milk
3 large eggs
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 box yellow cake mix
1/2 cup pecans, chopped

Review: Camp Club Girls by Barbour
Posted by: | CommentsWhen I was young I LOVED reading the Sweet Valley Twins books, Nancy Drew and The Babysitters Club (remember those?!).
Well, I’m happy to say that Barbour is releasing a new line of books similar to these for Christian girls. The Camp Club Girls series centers around a group of girls who meet at Camp Discovery. They become friends and form a group they call the ‘Camp Club Girls’ and soon find themselves embroiled in mysteries and adventures galore.
These books are great for tween girls (ages 8 – 12). They have all the zany fun and intrigue of books like Sweet Valley, but they also include a component that none of those that I listed above do: the spiritual component. Saving Money on Thanksgiving Dinner

Thanksgiving dinner can be a very expensive meal. But you can take steps to reduce the costs this year using a few of these ideas.
One of the easiest and best ideas when trying to save money on Thanksgiving is to make it a potluck. Have all the parties coming to dinner provide a dish. We do this EVERY year and it cuts down on costs considerably. Make a chart listing categories such as main dish, vegetables, starch, dessert, drinks, etc and note who will provide what in each category.
Another idea is to not cook more than everyone will eat. My mother loves to cook many different dishes “just in case” but this “just in case” has often turned into a waste. Do your calculations on serving sizes and don’t over feed your guests.
Shop in advance. Things like butter, canned cranberry sauce, and soup stocks (unless you make your own) tend to go on sale during holiday time. Make sure you get yours before they run out. During the fall season, we enjoy entertaining our friends and family with a large Thanksgiving holiday meal. We will spend 30 hours cooking and baking a feast for our large family.
One of the items we enjoy baking are some homemade cornbreads. To fit with the theme of my Thanksgiving holiday meal, I use a cast-iron corn bread pan that has cavities that are shaped like small ears of corn. You can pick up this type of baking pan at your local kitchen shop or discount department store for around $15.00.

Review: Skid Out

Why is it that I never seem to get deodorant on my clothes unless I’m traveling and don’t have any good way to clean it out – or any alternative clothes to wear? I’d been carrying these Skid Out sponges with me for a few weeks waiting for a time when I needed them, so that I could test them and see how they work.
I’d almost forgotten about them until, low and behold, I was traveling. I was getting ready to head to a TV station to talk about my book and I looked down and noticed a streak of what looked like deodorant on my pants.
