A Basic Guide To Creating A Blog On Blogger

By

by S McIntyre

Setting up a blog on Blogger is very easy to do even for a beginner. The signing up process takes no more than 10 minutes. Once you log into your blog, the dashboard may be look a bit confusing, but really it’s quite straight forward and simple.

It would be a good idea now if you’re not satisfied with the template selection Blogger offers to change it. You can search for thousands of free blogger templates on the web that are more suited to your taste.

On the dashboard you will see links to edit your profile, add a photo, get notifications and links to add new posts, edit posts, settings, layout and monetize.

Edit Profile – Allowing people to know your first name isn’t going to hurt. Share some information about who you are, your interests etc.

Photo – If you have a photo of yourself, upload it. It’s nice to put a face to a name.

Notifications – These are email alerts of announcement of new features or products provided by Blogger.com. It’s up to you if you’re interested in receiving these types of updates.

When you click on “New Post”, you will see a box where you will type your blog post. You don’t have to know how to use HTML as there is an icon that can make your links clickable. You can also see icons for uploading video, adding an image, text color, font style, spell check and so on.

At the bottom of the box, you can also pre-schedule posts. Click on the “Post Options” and change the post date and time. Once you have completed your blog post you can click on “Publish Post” to save your post. You can double check to see if this function worked by clicking on “Edit Posts” and you should see your post with the word “Scheduled” beside it in red.

When you click on “Layout”, you will see your page elements where you can add or move items to other parts of your blog. You can add gadgets that will help make your blog interactive, fun and interesting.

Click “Add a Gadget”, find what you want and then click on the blue square. A new box will open and show the preview. Click on “Save” and it will be added to your blog. You can move it anywhere around your blog by clicking, holding and dragging the item, but remember to click on “Save” to update the changes. To remove this element, click on “Edit” and click on “Remove”.

You can also monetize your blog with Google AdSense and it’s easy to configure as Blogger will take you through it step by step.

For more detailed explanations of how to use Blogger and all its features, click on the “Help” link at the top of your blog.

A Note From Jill

CWAHM.com is a dream that God has truly brought to life. I began CWAHM.com in 2000 while learning HTML. I thought it would be a fun hobby and a way to compile all the information I was seeking on working at home. I am a mom of 2 (1 boy, 1 girl), a wife and I do work from home. I accepted Christ as my savior at the age of seven as a Sparky in my church’s AWANA club. I have a Bachelor’s degree from Grace University in Human Development and Family Studies/Bible. I love working from home and I pray that CWAHM will be a blessing in your life as it has been in mine.
