Moms in Direct Sales and Social Media
For work at home moms in direct sales who want to market online, social media can make a big difference.
When you start your marketing plan, you’ll see that there are many options for social networking. I’ve found one of the easiest ways to start is to create accounts on a few of the systems and test them out to see which you like best.
I’d like to share some tips on social media networking:
1. Use all of the profile fields provided. I’ve found many connections by letting others know what authors I like, what my hobbies are and what television shows I tend to watch. Some sites allow you to put web links and blog link in your profile. Make sure you fill every field out. This lets everyone know as much as possible about you.
2. Use your real name. Often I see people use some type of business name as their user name. This doesn’t allow for people to know you. When I get requests saying “bookstore wants to be your friend” I often reject them. I want to know people, not companies.
3. Respond to those who talk to you or send you messages. These networks are called “social” networks for a reason. Be social.
4. Spend time each day saying hello to someone new. Remember those profiles I spoke about above? I look for people I have something in common with. I then say hello and comment on the common ground we share.
5. If the network allows you to upload photos, add photos of you, your pets, your kids and anything else you wish to publicly share. This makes you much more real to those who are strangers.
6. If the network allows you to personalize your background, make yourself unique and add those personalizations. Add avatars, backgrounds and anything else to make you stand out.
Using social media networks is a lot of fun. I’ve met so many wonderful people, discovered customers and built my team. Create some social media accounts and watch your business grow.

I represent several companies, but during this exciting economy represents a challange to make cash to meet
Audrey,
You make some great points here! I train people in direct sales about how to use social media more effectively in their businesses, and the profile is often one of the most misunderstood elements. It is incredibly important to use your real name, put up a picture of you (not your logo), and then build relationships based on your authentic self. This is what leads to success in social media.
Keep up the great work!
