Successful CWAHM Story: Jamie Nadeau
Name: Jamie Nadeau
Company: Burnin’ For Candles
Website Address: www.BurninForCandles.com
Jamie and I met (by phone) just a short while ago. During the course of our conversation I learned that she had found her business on CWAHM (through our Home Business Comparison – how exciting!). She’s been in business for 2 1/2 years now, so I asked her to share a little about her journey to becoming a successful CWAHM.
Jill: Tell us a little about your business:
Jamie: My husband, Brad, and I both work our business from home. We are distributors for a natural wax candle company. WIth our business, we retail the products, fundraise, team build and coach others on how to have their own home business. While we really enjoy the retailing aspect of our business, our true passion is coaching others in building their own businesses. We do most of our team building and coaching online and through local meetings with our team.
Jill: How did you decide on your business:
Jamie: When I was pregnant with my second daughter, I wanted to find a way to stay home with my children instead of continuing my full-time job. I went looking for a genuine home-based business and found my sponsor through this site, CWAHM! I was able to compare real home based business opportunities and found that this one was the best fit for my family. There were no company quotas to meet and it was very flexible, I could do as much or as little with it as I wanted. Also, the products were something that I already used in my home, only these were better than the ones I was using (natural wax candles without the black soot…gotta love that!) It was so simple, which was exactly what I needed with two little ones in the house!
Jill: Name the one thing you love best about your business:
Jamie: I love that I can work it any time of day, however I want to do it! There are lots of ways for me to work my business. I can jump online any time of day or night (the only quiet time in the house!) and work my business. I can also choose to do retailing and team building while out and about running errands with my kids and while doing my daily mom routine around the house. Since my business is so portable, I can bring it with me wherever I go, and have FUN doing it!
Jill: How do you market your business?
Jamie: A few ways we have chosen to market our business is through online ads., social networking online (facebook, twitter, etc.), local fairs and events and just through word of mouth.
Jamie: I’ve learned that in order to be successful with your own business, you must believe in yourself. If you believe in yourself and in your ability to succeed, there is no stopping you! I’ve taken time to read and to learn not only about my business, but also about developing myself. This is the key to success!
Jill: How do you balance work/family?
Jamie: This is no easy task, as I’m sure all of you mothers (and fathers) out there know! I have been reading James Ray’s new book “Harmonic Wealth”. In his book he describes how you can acheive “harmony” in your life instead of balance. He tells how every day something in your life will take presidence over the other areas of your life (i.e. children will consume your day vs. your home business (or job outside the home), house cleaning, financial responsibilities etc.). If each of the “areas” of your life are in harmony with each other, you will not feel like you neglected your home business the day that your kids were sick and needed you. You will know that another day, your home business, instead of the kids, will demand all of your attention. Working to acheive ”harmony” in my life has helped me to accept each of my special roles as a mom, wife and business woman.
Jill: What tip would you give to those wishing to start a business.
Jamie: Find support! Whatever business endeavor you choose, make sure you surround yourself with people who believe in you and who can offer you advice when you hit a bump in the road. Having the support of my family, my team members and mentors has helped to push me through times I felt when I couldn’t go on with my buisness. By surrounding myself with a network of people who support me and who are successful themselves, it makes me want to strive every day to accomplish the goals I have set for myself.
