Organized Home Spaces – The Kitchen
ByI have found this to be a really fun topic, organizing spaces at home that is. I feel like it gives me a focus so by the end of the year, we might just cover the whole house. In my February monthly newsletter, I am talking a lot about the kitchens, so that is where my brain has been lately… so here at CWAHMs, let’s meet in the kitchen, shall we?
In a past article here at CWAHM’s, I talked about a command center… were not talking about that at all today, we are talking about the actual kitchen…. counters, cabinets, pantries… I want you to walk into your kitchen and tell me what you see…
… are the counters covered with paper, dishes or things that are not kitchen related?
… are there dishes in the sink (I only clean mine once a day, so this is questionable)?
… does it take you a long time to find a kitchen tool or a sandwich bag?
If you are uncomfortable about answering any of these questions… keep on reading.
Getting your kitchen organized, doesn’t have to be as hard as you might think. It might be just setting aside the time to get it done, or maybe it’s time to reevaluate what’s inside the kitchen. Here are three helpful hints in getting your kitchen organized.
1. One cabinet at a time. Start small, do one cabinet. Take everything out and set it on the counter. Sort out what you NEED, get rid of what is TRASH (or outdated) and DONATE any duplicates or mismatched items.
2. Like with like. When putting things away, always keep the same items together. All pots and pans in one cabinet, all baking sheets and trays in another, and so on, you get the picture.
3. Forget the “I might’s…” This is really important for any organizing projects, forgetting about the “I might’s…” I might need this when, I might use this when or the ever popular, I might give this to someone when… These are unrealistic… if you don’t NEED IT or USE IT, don’t keep it.
If your schedule only gives you 15 minutes, you might find that to be a great time to at least tackle that one cabinet at a time… Setting small goals can make getting organized so much more manageable and get you results!
