How to give yourself a quick closet makeover

By

I don’t know about you, but we are on the verge of spring here in the Pacific Northwest, we are so close I can feel it in my bones. When the signs of spring are almost here, I feel inspired to reorganizing.

This past week we took a little trip south down into San Francisco, California for spring break. When planning the trip I of course checked what the weather was going to be, and saw that we might have 65 degrees while in San Francisco.

I thought to myself… do I dare pack shorts or maybe short sleeve shirts? As I was thumbing through the closet looking for vacation cloths (and having a heck of a time finding them), I thought to myself… TIME TO ORGANIZE aka CLOSET MAKEOVER!

I always start with the boys…

First, I thumbed through all the hanging items looking for those items that were too small, worn out (boys do that you know… wear out cloths, it really is a phenomenon I am not familiar with) or stained beyond repair. If anything fit in these categories… OUT IT GOES.

I did the same sort through their drawers checking all socks, shorts, pajamas and pants. With having two boys, I always do my oldest sons closet first, so that his “too small” items immediately go into his brothers closet.

Second, I sorted through and moved to the “front lines” all the seasonal cloths. We are getting ready for warmer weather, so all the short sleeve shirts come to the front, and shorts move up a drawer; while all the pants and long sleeves move to the back. After going through the kids cloths, I had a small sized bag of clothing for donations and a small stack of pants that will get cut off and make some nice shorts for the summer.

After digging through the boys closets I headed to our master bedroom closet and did the same thing. The only difference is that I did check for items that “I know I will never wear again…,” you know those items…

Holding on to the size 6 jeans is not logical to think that I will ever fit into them again. I also managed to get rid of a pair of “flair” pants… not even sure where they came from, but I know, I will never wear them.  Of course, I don’t toss anything of my dear husbands, he doesn’t like me getting rid of his cloths… just my cloths, but managed to get a few things to add to the donation bag.

Thankfully, when spring and fall come around, it’s always a good reminder to me that I need to reorganize the closets! This whole process took me about a half hour to sort through. It doesn’t have to take a lot of time, and once you have it “managed” it takes less time it takes to maintain!
