Reasons to be organized in 2009

I was in the grocery store the other day, and I had to giggle when looking at all the magazines at the check stand. It seemed like every cover had “getting organized” as a headline splashed across it; like it was some new phenomenon or something.

Apparently, with the new year comes a new chance to do the things we didn’t do last year. Why does getting organized always seem to be one of those things we overlook or put off each year?

I have never been much of a resolution setter; I am more of a goal setter. I look at my goals as more of a focus or feeling, rather than specific tasks like losing 10 pounds or cleaning out the garage (not that those are bad… I wouldn’t mind dropping a few of those holiday pounds).

This year, my goals are to try new things because I can, not because I have to; get back to the things I enjoy, because I love to do them; and finally, continue to grow in what I am good at, because for me, it is about helping others.

Often, when I meet new people, I get comments about what my house must look like. “Your house must be spotless,” or “you probably don’t have a loose paper anywhere,” you get the idea. What I find most fascinating about this, is that, people forget that I have two small boys at home, or that I run a small business, in addition to all the “mom” tasks I have to keep up with at my house. I too have days where I just want to pull the covers over my head and not come out for a week.

Keeping on top of my daily tasks is hard work, and just as hard for me as it is for you. The thing of it is, is that no matter how hard or challenging things get, I know that I truly can do everything because He gives me the strength (Phil. 4:13). This is what motivates me and allows me to get up each day and do what I do, because it pleases Him. Maybe it’s just takes looking at the tasks a little differently, so remember…

· On days when you feel like it’s all just too hard, remember that all things are possible (Luke 18:27).

· On days when it seems like nothing is going right, remember He will direct you (Proverbs 3:5).

· In those moments of frustrations on knowing how you are going to manage it all, remember that He will supply your needs (Philippians 4:19).

I encourage you all to take a moment to set three goals for yourself; it can be specific tasks or just a focus for yourself. Post it up on your bulletin board and remind yourself each day of what you really want for the coming year.
