Job Searching Online – Staying Organized
Posted by: | Commentsby S McIntyre
When you’re actively job searching online, it’s very important to be organized. How many of you have applied at the same company twice without realizing you already did? How about a company contacting you weeks or months later and offering you a position you couldn’t remember applying for? Have you forgotten or lost the employer’s name and contact information? This wouldn’t have happened if you kept proper track of your job searches.
There are several systems you can use to manage and stay organized during your job searching online. Many use spreadsheets created in Excel; use Word or a notebook with handwritten notes which can become messy, unreadable and time consuming. If these are your choices make sure you keep adequate information on them and keep them updated.
First, have all versions of your resumes, cover letters and follow up letters organized in a folder on your computer and have them backed up on a CD, external hard drive or on a web backup system like Mozy.com. You may have to make several folders and sub folders to keep track of all job posting ads from the different companies. It’ll be easier if you had sub folders labeled with the job position details you applied for. For example customer service, article writer and so on. You can copy and paste the job description on Notepad and use this as a reference or reminder of what the job entailed. This is especially helpful when the company takes weeks or months to get back to you. Read More→
Archive and Notes from the CWAHM 7/22 Show
Posted by: | CommentsWe had a great show today! LISTEN BELOW!
Here are a few notes from what we talked about throughout the show:
Our 1st guests were authors Tricia Goyer and Ocieanna Fleiss. We talked about their new book, Love Finds You in Victory Heights, Washington.
* Both authors are moms who have built their writing careers from home while raising their families. They shared tips with us about getting started as a writer and how to balance home/family/writing and all the other parts of life.
* About the book: The Second World War has stolen Rosalie’s fiance from her. But rather than wallow, Rosalie throws herself into her work at the Boeing plant in Victory Heights, shooting rivets into the B-17 bombers that will destroy the enemy. A local reporter dubs her Seattle’s Own Rosie the Riveter, and her story lends inspiration to women across the country. While Rosalie’s strong arms can bear the weight of this new responsibility, her heart cannot handle the intense feelings that begin to surface for Kenny, the handsome reporter. Fear of a second heartbreak is a powerful opponent – but will it claim victory over love?
Our 2nd guest was fellow mom and book reviewer extraordinaire Takiela Bynum of BooksaLatte.com.
* Kiela shared with us her story of opening a book review site and how it allows her to work at home even with challenges (sickness herself and kids with medical issues) at home.

The Simple Way to Practice What You Preach
Posted by: | Commentsby Alicia Forest
As I’m wrapping up a slew of private retreats with clients this month, it’s become clear that it’s time for me to get focused on practicing what I’ve been preaching – or more specifically, to put myself through the same intense process and plan that I take my clients through.
This thought popped into my head several times during the retreats, but really came to the forefront of my thinking over the past week or so, as I’ve been making some very big decisions in my business that’s going to majorly shift things going forward.
So, here’s what I’ve noticed that’s going on with me in my business that I’m hoping will shed some light for you as well:
Problem: Not taking action on a particular task.
If you’re finding yourself low on energy around moving forward on a certain project or idea, it pays to take a look inside for the reason why.
As I learned from Andrea Lee, my private coach for nearly three years, everything is energy. And when I’m stuck – *especially* when I know what to do next – there’s something wrong inside that’s blocking forward movement. Because, after all, I am all about taking action. Read More→

Guest Post: Seasonal Professional – Be Gone
Posted by: | CommentsDoes your professionalism ebb and flow with the changing seasons? Find it harder to keep that crisp edge during summer break with a house full of energetic kids (plus an added playmate or two) or with preschoolers 24/7 year round? I’m here to tell you that regardless of the time of year it IS possible. What’s the secret? A bit of pre-planning.
Pre-planning from snacks prepared ahead in the right grab-n-go size, to having a supply of rainy day projects in a special box – pulled out for those moments you need to really focus for 20 minutes of uninterrupted bliss, to covering the desktop in shaving cream for a little lime scented fingerpainting. Taking the time to line up some activities can be such a stress reducer and an empowerment tool that enables you to do what you do best without worries. No one knows your child and his attention span like you do so plan accordingly (and individually).
One of the biggest stealers of professionalism surrounds phone calls with child noises in the background so let’s review some solutions: Read More→
