Pursuing Holiness – Part 2

Posted by: | Comments (1)

A few weeks ago I shared (read the post here) that I am reading through The Pursuit of Holiness by Jerry Bridges. It’s been quite a journey these past few weeks as I’ve encountered truths about sin, holiness and the struggle we each face inside. I’d like to share with you one of the lessons I’ve learned just this week.

In chapter five of the book, Bridges discusses the power that sin has over us. He talks about the “dominion of sin” and reminds readers that once we are saved, sin’s hold us on is broken. Now, I’ve heard this said over the years and while I believe it to be true, I have always wondered what, then, is wrong with me? Why do I still struggle with sin? In fact, I’ve often thought to myself, “I must not be a very good Christian if I’m still struggling with such-and such. I’m sure so-and-so doesn’t struggle like I do.

Over and over I’ve barraged myself with thoughts like these until I truly believed there was something wrong with me – that somehow sin DID still have power over me. Read More→

Finally. It’s 9:30 p.m. and it’s finally quiet in my house. With the kids in bed, I think, “Finally, I can get some work done, free of interruptions.” But then an interruption shows up – in the form of a husband who wants some alone time with his wife. Ever have this happen?

Herein lies a bit of a challenge for us work-at-home moms, who often use the hours between kids’ bedtimes and our own to tackle the work that eludes us during the day.

So is alone time with said husband really an interruption – or an opportunity? I must decide in that moment. I’d be selling you a bill of goods if I said these are always easy choices. Like many of you, my boundaries on where work ends and home life begins don’t just get blurry; they often just disappear (like wayward baby socks).

Ignoring your spouse’s advances in favor of work is tempting, but consider these points: Read More→

By: Dr. Karia Bunting, author of Daddy’s Delight: Embracing Your Divine Design (Moody Publishers, June 2010)

I am unabashedly a daddy’s girl. It is not that my dad had a lot of time to spend with me – he didn’t.  Rather, the time he spent with me was meaningful.  Even when I had to be disciplined as a child, I knew that he still loved and accepted me.

I remember one time getting in trouble for riding my bike to MacArthur Park in spite of the fact that I had been told not to do so.  MacArthur Park was the hang-out.  It was the place where all the teenage  kids and teenage wanna-bes went and played music,  leaning coolly on their Camero Z28′s talking to girls.  It was the place I wanted to go.

I convinced my little brother, Vadrick, to come with me.  Five years younger than me, he did almost anything I said. So we got on our bikes, and off we sailed.

Of course, I wasn’t going to stay.  I just wanted to ride through and be seen.  I wanted someone to say, “I saw Karia riding through MacArthur Park on Sunday.  Did you see her?”

I wanted a brief brush with cool.

We sped down the street together, stirring up the leaves from the tree-lined sidewalks.   As we approached, I pumped my pedals harder, working up my speed so I could cruise effortlessly around the bend where I would make my grand entrance.  The wind whipped my blue blazer as I floated through the sunny September afternoon.  When I rounded the corner, I could hear the booming bass of the popular Marvin Gaye song resonating through the kid-packed park, “Let’s get it on…oooh, baby.  Let’s get it on.” Read More→

We had a great show with author Denise Hunter and fellow CWAHM Holley Stofferahn!

Here are a few notes from what we talked about throughout the show:

Our first guest, Denise Hunter, shared with is that her newest novel, Driftwood Lane (fabulous book, by the way!) is the last in the series takes place in Nantucket and with it a riviting story of romance and personal conflict.

Diana’s favorite “work-at-home” tip has when Denise suggested writing in her car while her son attended football practice for 2 1/2 hours.  It goes to show how work-at-home moms can be creative.

Her latest marketing allows you to be the publicist.  You can sign up on her website and the more you talk about her book, tweet, submit a review, etc., the better your changes of winning – and the prize is a Kindle! Read More→

Do your Kids help you with your Business?

Posted by: | Comments (3)

by Corrie Petersen

As a mom you have kids running around the house. Some of them may be yours while others may not be, but that’s ok because your kids will be where you can see them.

If you have kids that want to help mommy with her business or if you have kids that want to make money, then you should allow them to help. It will help them have an understanding of business and it will help them with responsibility.

There are so many things your kids can do to help you with your business. What they can do depends on your business, but there is always something you can come up with. Make sure you give them things that are age appropriate and make sure they understand what you want them to do.

Here are a few suggestions that will work with most businesses.

1. If you like to hand out flyers, consider having your children go door to door placing a flyer in the handle of the screen door. Make sure you explain what the sign no solicitations means so they don’t place a flyer on a door that says that. Read More→
