Resting

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest. (Exodus 34:21).

Every once in a while God forces me to take a Sabbath—to stop my activities and rest. This week I was hit with an infection and boy did it slow me down. Stress more than likely brought it on to begin with, since I’m not very good at resting. My husband is good at making me rest. He forbade me from the computer for several days. To be quite honest it was refreshing.

God felt so serious about the Sabbath that anyone who worked on that day was put to death (Ex. 31:15). Experts today tell us that stress and overwork contribute to a leading cause of heart disease, cancer, and ultimately early death. Maybe God was trying to warn us of the effects of not resting with this strict commandment. Read More→

Homeschooling or working from home could each easily be a full time job.  So how can you successfully juggle both?  Is it even possible?  Yes!  There are many moms who homeschool their children successfully while building a business.  Over the years I’ve learned a few things that have helped me succeed and stay sane.

First, keep things in perspective. Juggling homeschooling and working from home IS a challenge and it won’t always be easy, but it can be done!

Do You Feel like a Spiritual Failure?

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Some days I just get sick and tired of stumbling.  I get frustrated with myself for losing my temper, overlooking someone’s feelings, or not being the sharpest tool in the shed.  Some days, I feel like quiting everything.

Do you ever feel that way?

Do you ever look at your life and think, “God could never use someone like me.”  Do you ever feel like a spiritual failure?

How we answer this question can have significant impact on effective ministry. By ministry, I mean whatever God is calling you to do. Because if you do feel like a spiritual failure, my guess is at some point you stop trying.  Because, after all, what’s the use?  You know you are just going to stumble again.

What if God doesn’t see your “stumbles” the same way?  What if God looks at your life without your highest victories and lowest drops? Kind of like a teacher who allows you to drop your lowest grade.  What if God is looking more at the pattern of growth in your life?

He certainly did this for the heroes of our faith. Consider Abraham.  God promised to give a child to Abraham and Sarah.  Yet there were 25 childless years before God fulfilled the promise.   Was Abraham perfect during those years?   If you read Romans 2, you would think so:

“Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, ‘So shall your offspring be.’ Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.” Read More→

As boomer entrepreneurs, we are thought to be not only a tad bit older, but along with that “wiser” as well.  That really got me thinking.  Am I?  Am I smarter today than I was years ago when I began my business and started my family?  I would love to say a YES -  no doubt in all areas of my life.  I’m so much wiser.  I’ve aced it all, etc.  But  … that just wouldn’t be true.  I do think in some areas, I am doing so much better, but in other areas, not so much.

For example, in business I’m still trying to get down the collecting of email addresses and sending out newsletters regularly. It occurred to me recently, if I had been collecting these over my 25 years in business all those emails I received, questions on starting a business, orders for my books, lists from teleseminars I gave or was a guest at, etc., my list could easily top 5 figures.  However, I didn’t do that.  I never fully converted those that came to my site into my newsletter.  I still today don’t have it down pat today.  Now how costly is that .. HUGE! How do I know?  Well every time I send out a newsletter I see results.  Either a few sign up for my coaching services, buy one of my books, or have me do their PR.  Now think about if my list was in the 5 figures.  Ouch .. like I said, huge.  For me, that’s something I’m working on.  For those who are just starting their business or have a lot more years of being an entrepreneur ahead of you, it’s your wake-up call.  Start now and do it right.  It’s that one thing that will make you a success today and for years to come.

A Note From Jill

CWAHM.com is a dream that God has truly brought to life. I began CWAHM.com in 2000 while learning HTML. I thought it would be a fun hobby and a way to compile all the information I was seeking on working at home. I am a mom of 2 (1 boy, 1 girl), a wife and I do work from home. I accepted Christ as my savior at the age of seven as a Sparky in my church’s AWANA club. I have a Bachelor’s degree from Grace University in Human Development and Family Studies/Bible. I love working from home and I pray that CWAHM will be a blessing in your life as it has been in mine.
