Guest Post: Easy Summer Blogging Tips

By

by Tracy Zdelar

Can you believe it? Summer is just around the corner.  The kids will be out of school and home with you 24/7. They will need your time and attention. If you are a blogger and you strive to keep up with some sort of regular posting, does this scare the heebie-jeebies out of you? Well, I hope to share a few tips that might just help you feel not only in control and accomplished with your blogging this summer but that will also increase your subscribers.

Do a Series and Increase Your Subscribers.

I believe a “series” on a topic that motivates me could motivate others as well. No man – or woman is an island! If something is pulling on my heart, I can be pretty certain there are many others out there like me who want to know the same thing.

So, basically we have 3 busy months (June, July & August) and then bam! the kids are back in school whether its public, private or homeschool. (Which by the way, I am preparing to be a first time homeschooling mom of a current public schooled kindergartner- come this fall.) So lets break this down into some Easy Summer Blogging Tips I’d like to address as K.I.S.S… Keeping It Simply Summer!

1. Pick a topic that you can spread out over 3 months. I plan to blog about my new series once a week during the summer. I’m still working on that “new series topic” for my main blog. Start working that series out in your head or on paper right now so you have a plan of action in place before your first post is due. K.I.S.S!

2. Don’t try to pack too much info in one post. Make it easy enough to read in a short time and try to leave that “carrot” dangling so they can’t wait to come back next week. K.I.S.S!

3. Want something smaller, maybe a filler? Try doing a Top 10 Tuesday on Tuesdays every week or every once in awhile. You could also do a Wordless Wednesday as well. I do an {almost} Wordless Wednesday because I do type a little bit of info along with my picture. I actually categorize mine as Top 10 Tuesday and Wordless Wednesday in my categories so they are easy for my readers to find later. (I don’t do both of these every single week, either).

4. Be sure to tell your readers as far in advanced as you can or as early as makes sense about your upcoming series and encourage them to subscribe to your email/RSS feed so they don’t miss a thing!

5. Do you have a Facebook fan page which is now called a “Like” page . You should really consider making one for your blog. I have a personal Facebook profile and a fan page for my blog. Not all my friends want to be part of my blog. Then you can post reminders to these folks about whats coming up and why they should subscribe for your email/ RSS feed.

6. Get on Twitter and link your Twitter and your Facebook fan page together. When you share something with your Facebook fans, it automatically shows up in Twitter stream. Facebook sends me an update every week about the activity on my fan page and I’m getting hundreds of visits to my fan /like page alone. I have to think that some of that traffic is coming from Twitter!

7. You could also ask your bloggy friends to submit a guest post every other week so you can have  a break. Think ahead and arrange for one of them to post for you while you are on vacation.

Be creative, think outside the box. Plan now so you can enjoy your summer with your kids without feeling like you’ve lost your blog in the process. And, remember to keep first things first. Our families are really  more important than our blogs and our readers. Don’t try to overdo it this summer. Remember K.I.S.S.  Keeping It Simply Summer!
