Ask Jill: Ideas On Finding a Work-at-Home Job
ByQ Dear Jill, I would like to work from home but have no idea what I can do. I am an older lady with a disabled husband that I care for. He is totally dependent on me. I am free to get on the computer during his naps. We need the extra income.I have not got much experience at anything. I was a cafeteria manager at an elementary school and worked in childcare as a caregiver. My talent is loving people and serving. I want to be able to glorify God in all I do. Right now is where God is using me taking care of my husband in his child like ways. Do you have any suggestions on what I could do to earn a little extra income. Thank you and my God Bless
A First of all, bless you for stepping up and doing what needs to be done. May God bless your efforts. We think
it’s fantastic that you’re willing to go even a step farther and take on a work-at-home occupation! We have a few ideas for
you to consider:
1. Because your time is limited, you’ll need something that will not require you to spend hours
a day on the phone or even online. If you have time to build a business, a blog can be a great choice because you can write the posts whenever you have available time. The downside is that it takes time to build a following and advertising income.
2. You might also consider direct sales. For your situation, we’d recommend looking into businesses
like Avon, Send Out Cards or other similar businesses that offer online training, marketing and sales. (You can find a list of home-based businesses to compare on CWAHM)
3. Another idea is to become a subcontractor for someone who is already in business – such as a virtual assistant. Offer your skills to help fill in any openings that may need filled for someone with more business than they can handle.
4. One final thought is to find a telecommuting position for a company that hires at-home workers.
Check out the telecommuting job listings on CWAHM for these and other telecommuting positions.
We hope these ideas will guide you in the right direction and you’ll soon find yourself filling those quiet hours with a work-at-home job.
