Keeping Christ in our Summer Homeschool
By
I wanted to take a look at some very practical ideas for projects or studies that you and your family can do during the summer that will help you keep your children’s focus on the Lord.
The first resource is a company called A Journey Through Learning, where you will find several options for lapbooks that are Christ or Bible centered. Our family has done the Parables of Jesus lapbook, which we all loved! However, they have several others that are focused on Jesus, as well as one for the Old Testament and one for the New Testament and several for Answers in Genesis books.
Our next resource is Grapevine Studies. Here you and your children can stick figure and timeline through the Bible. Our children have done this, and this has been a wonderful tool in our family. We have learned so much, and been able to take our Bible study deeper than we previously had been able to. As the children get older, they learn how to use the concordance, topical Bible, etc.. Which means GrapeVine Studies can be used from the very young, all the way up to high school students. I would recommend studying the Birth of Jesus or through the Old or New Testaments.
And finally, the last resource I would like to share with you is from Tomorrow’s Forefathers. My children and I had read their book Making Brother’s and Sister’s Best Friends, and it had great impact on our family. However, at a recent homeschool convention, I was re-introduced to the Malley family. This summer, my daughters and I have started their Bright Lights discipleship curriculum together. It has been wonderful!! I have not purchased the Light Shop boys discipleship curriculum at this point, but I can tell you based on the other products that I have seen and used, that it would be a wonderful resource for you and your sons. When working through the Bright Lights curriculum, my girls are being encouraged to foster their relationship for with our Lord, as well as with their parents! And it also encourages them to live for the Lord! The time my daughters and I have spent so far, have been a sweet time together, and I look forward to our time together each week!
Check out these resources, or find others, but ultimately, my prayer is that when the fall rolls around that you and your children will be closer to each other, and closer to the Lord!
